VO2 Max Testing
The gold standard measure of aerobic fitness — know your limits, then exceed them.
Performance Testing
What Is VO2 Max?
VO2 max is the maximum volume of oxygen your body can utilise during high-intensity exercise. It is the most widely used measure of aerobic fitness and endurance capacity, providing a precise, objective assessment of your cardiovascular and metabolic function.
Whether you're a marathoner, a triathlete, a weekend cyclist or simply someone who wants to understand their fitness baseline, a VO2 max test gives you the data to train with purpose.
What Your Results Tell You
- Your absolute and relative VO2 max score
- Maximal aerobic power output
- Calculated anaerobic threshold for precise training zone design
- Maximal heart rate and heart rate zone ranges
- Personalised recommendations for training intensity and structure
The Test Protocol
The VO2 max test is performed on a treadmill or stationary bike in a controlled clinic environment and takes 10–20 minutes. You'll wear a metabolic face mask connected to a gas analysis machine, which measures the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your exhaled breath alongside your respiratory rate. Heart rate is monitored throughout.
Medical Clearance Requirements
Medical clearance is required for males aged 45 or older and females aged 55 or older. If you have one or more cardiovascular risk factors, a full blood test and medical clearance are required prior to testing. No alcohol, caffeine or heavy exercise in the 24 hours before testing.
